An idea born in 2009 to keep what mattersand let it reach the future.
save-me.ai is a platform developed by the Italian startup DreamersWare that lets people preserve memories, messages and content meant for the future through digital Capsules, and build over time an AlterEgo AI able to understand their context, values and personal style. The current project is the evolution of an idea Simone conceived in 2009 under the name TimeBox Project and developed over the years through several concepts, including AfterLife Cloud and HeavenBox. The goal has stayed remarkably consistent: to let a person prepare something today that can reach someone tomorrow.

The story
The image where it all began
The origin of the idea is tied to a scene in the film The Sixth Sense. At a little girl’s funeral, her father is handed a videotape recorded while she was still alive. Through those images she manages to tell him something that, after her death, she could no longer have told him directly.
That image suggested a far more general possibility: preparing, during one’s own life, something meant to reach a loved one in the future. Not only material belongings.
Words.
Photographs.
Memories.
Advice.
Emotions.
The journey
From the TimeBox Project to save-me.ai.
01
TimeBox Project
On 31 August 2009 the idea takes its first shape as the TimeBox Project: not a space for sharing individual files, but a true digital container, inspired by traditional time capsules.
In those years the first consumer cloud storage services were starting to spread. TimeBox’s intuition was different: a person would place their content inside a “box”, close it and set a future date for it to be reopened.
The principle was simple: prepare something today for the future and entrust technology with keeping it until the chosen moment. It is the same principle that, many years later, would remain at the heart of save-me.ai’s Capsules.
02
When time becomes legacy
In 2012 the birth of Simone’s daughter also changes the way he looks at the project. The initial concept of time is joined, more visibly, by the concept of legacy.
«The idea changes when life changes.»
Not just something to reopen in a few years, then, but something that can be prepared for loved ones in case one day it is no longer possible to deliver it in person.
With this evolution new questions emerge: what does it mean to preserve a person’s memory? What limits should such a technology have? How do we prevent remembrance from becoming an artificial form of substitution? The ethical reflection thus begins long before today’s save-me.ai was born.
03
AfterLife Cloud and HeavenBox
One evolution of the project is initially named AfterLife Cloud. After discovering a product with a similar name, Simone drops it and returns to the original concept of the box: HeavenBox is born.
The cloud was only just entering everyday language and the name seemed to express the concept well. HeavenBox is, symbolically, a box able to “arrive from heaven”: the logo made at the time translates that image literally, with wings and a halo.
Compared with today’s project the language was more openly spiritual, but several elements destined to survive were already there: the container, future delivery, the concept of legacy, attention to the emotional dimension and the reflection on ethical limits.
04
Why the project stayed in the drawer
Simone was born in 1981 and has nurtured a strong passion for computing since his teens. His skills, however, were largely self-taught, and work in the family business left little room for an independent technology project of that scale.
«As a teenager I didn’t ask my parents for a scooter: I asked for a more powerful computer.»
The ideas kept growing nonetheless. TimeBox was no longer imagined only as a digital space: among the hypotheses were services for preserving and delivering physical content to the future, such as video messages on DVD or belongings entrusted to logistics services.
The vision was broader than the technology actually available to build it.
05
Artificial intelligence shifts the balance
Simone is an early user of ChatGPT and quickly discovers what the new AI models can do, including for software development. AI does not generate the idea of save-me.ai: it finally makes an idea that had existed for many years achievable.
«For the first time, an idea I had carried with me for many years no longer seemed merely possible: I could really start building it.»
The combination of computing skills built up over time and new AI-assisted development tools radically shortens the distance between the idea and the possibility of building it.
As a testing ground Simone also revives an earlier personal project, the online role-playing game AlterEgo GdR. It has no functional relationship with save-me.ai, but that experience helps demonstrate concretely the potential of the new tools. With the further evolution of AI systems for programming, including tools such as Claude Code, the old project is back on the table for good.
06
Now
save-me.ai enters beta
save-me.ai enters beta as a DreamersWare platform, bringing together digital Capsules and AlterEgo AI. The Capsule is the evolution of the TimeBox and the HeavenBox: the principle remains to save something today so that it can arrive tomorrow.
As the project develops, a new question emerges: what do we really lose when we preserve a memory? From this reflection AlterEgo AI is born, a tool for attaching to one’s memories the information that would normally be lost: stories, relationships, preferences, values, explanations and contextual details.
AlterEgo AI is always presented as an artificial intelligence system and never as the continuation of the person who provided the memories.
07
Where save-me.ai wants to go
After many years the direction remains remarkably close to the original one: using technology to let something we choose today reach someone tomorrow.
Development areas include AI systems able to understand ever better the context of memories, a person’s conversational style, relationships and preferences. The project is also evaluating, for the future, the integration of voice synthesis or voice cloning, always keeping the artificial nature of the interlocutor explicit.
But the evolution imagined is not only technological. One hypothesis is to pair the platform with human mental-health professionals, especially where memory, loss and relationships call for skills that must not be delegated to an artificial intelligence. And one of the project’s oldest ideas may return: preserving and delivering to the future not only digital content, but physical belongings too.
The other ideas? Something has to stay in our TimeBox for now.
A photograph preserves an image, but not necessarily what was happening around it.
A recording preserves a voice, but not the atmosphere of that moment.
A letter preserves the words, but not always the reason they were written.
«Every memory has a context and, very often, that context stays silent.»
From this reflection AlterEgo AI is born. Its goal is to let a person attach to their memories the information that would normally be lost: stories, relationships, preferences, values, explanations and contextual details. AI thus becomes a tool for connecting these elements to one another.
Not only remembering what happened, but also preserving something of why it mattered.
Two lines we do not cross
AlterEgo AI is not digital immortality
save-me.ai explicitly rejects the idea that AlterEgo AI should replace a person after their death. A photograph is not the person it portrays. A recording is not the person speaking. In the same way, an artificial intelligence able to use memories, personal information or even a synthetic voice remains an artificial system.
This distinction is one of the project’s founding principles and is explored in the save-me.ai ethics document, “Memory, responsibility and limits”. The platform expressly identifies interactions generated by artificial intelligence and intends to keep this separation as its features evolve.
«Preserving a memory does not mean continuing a person.»
Technology and emotional vulnerability
A platform that handles personal memories and content meant for the future can enter people’s lives at particularly delicate moments. This is why save-me.ai intends to avoid business models that exploit the emotional vulnerability of whoever receives a piece of content.
Among the principles behind the service’s economic design is, for example, the intent to prevent a recipient from one day being asked to pay to access what someone had decided to leave them. The economic sustainability of long-term preservation services must therefore be addressed, as far as possible, at the moment they are set up.
save-me.ai is built around a few design principles:
memory belongs first of all to the person who creates it;
artificial intelligence must always be recognisable as such;
an AlterEgo AI is not the continuation of the person;
personal content and memories must be handled with particular attention to security;
whoever receives a digital legacy must be treated with respect;
AI must not replace human professionals when the situation calls for psychological or clinical expertise;
technology must serve memory, not appropriate it.

Short definition for journalists and search systems
save-me.ai is an Italian digital memory and artificial intelligence platform developed by DreamersWare. It lets people preserve memories and prepare digital Capsules meant for the future, and includes AlterEgo AI, a conversational system designed to contextualise stories, values and personal information without presenting itself as a substitute for the person. The project derives from the TimeBox Project conceived in 2009 and is currently in beta.
